Provincial Nominee Program

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is a Canadian immigration program for those who desire to live permanently in a province or territory. Each province or territory in Canada has its own provincial nominee program tailored to the requirements and expectations of the local labor market. The federal government has expanded the number of immigrants accepted for permanent residency through PNPs throughout the years. Between 2020 and 2022, Canada hopes to accept approximately 200,000 persons under the PNP.

Am I eligible for Canada PNP?

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) eligibility factors vary from province to province.
Because PNPs are part of an economic immigration policy, they are typically designed to attract employees who can readily contribute to the economy and are likely to stay in that province. As a result, certain PNPs prioritize immigrants with experience in in-demand vocations in that province. Other PNPs prefer immigrants with a link to the province, such as a family, because it improves the likelihood that they will stay in the province.
Young candidates with great language abilities, a high level of education, and competent job experience, like with most economic immigration programs, have a stronger chance of success.
Every PNP has different “immigration” streams, each of which is meant to attract immigrants with different skill sets.

How to apply for the Provincial Nominee Program?

Following are the simple steps to get Canada’s provincial nomination program:

Applying for Canada PNP through a Paper-based process

If your PNP is not in-line with the express entry program, you have to apply through a paper-based process.
Once you get a provincial nomination, you can submit your paper application for Canadian permanent residence to IRCC with a PCC and a medical examination certificate.
Processes using express entry programs that are conducted on paper take substantially longer than those conducted online. A paper application typically takes 18 months to process, compared to the 6 months on average for Express Entry applications for permanent residence.

Applying for Canada PNP through the Express Entry process

Create a profile on the Express Entry profile and submit it. You must state in your profile that a Canadian province or territory nominated you. You will be added to the Express Entry pool after your provincial nomination is approved, and your CRS score will increase by 600 points. You are essentially certain of getting an ITA for a Canada PR visa with thus many extra points.

Express Entry Provincial Nominee Program

The majority of PNPs have an “enhanced” immigration stream that enables the provinces to explore the Express Entry pool of the federal government for qualified immigrants who can fill the demands of the labor market. Candidates for the Express entrance program may then apply for a provincial nomination in this manner.
Express entrance applicants receive 600 CRS points to their profile after receiving a provincial nomination certificate, guaranteeing them an ITA in the subsequent rounds of invitation.

What is the processing time for a PNP?

Whether you submitted your PNP application using express entry linked streams or non-express entry linked streams will affect how quickly it is processed.
The total processing time for the Canada PNP covers both the original application to the province and the extra processing time for the IRCC’s PR Visa application.
The majority of provinces have cut processing timeframes to months or even weeks. Processing takes six to eight months for streams that are linked to Express Entry. It normally takes between one and two years for non-Express Entry applications (paper-based) to be processed at the federal level.
